Latest Updates from Our Project:

Production Continues and a Fresh TTS Kit!
about 1 month ago – Fri, Oct 18, 2024 at 02:33:31 PM

Hello everyone!

Today we have a short update. As those of you who have followed our previous campaigns know, this tends to be the quietest part of the process. That said, we can say that production is continuing apace. Our production partner is confident that they will have the games completed before Lunar New Year, and so we are on track for an early spring fulfillment for backers. This is roughly on track with our original estimates for the project, and will likely translate to a general retail release around the time of Gen Con next year. We will have a much better sense of the exact shipping timeline in a couple months.

Second, we have updated the TTS kit to be fully inline with the final production files. As usual with the development process, by the end of testing our TTS mods get a little messy. Nick took some time recently to rebuild the kit and clean everything up. So, if you've been itching to play some Ahoy or want to see what the final expansion factions look like, you can find everything you need to play over at the official Ahoy mod on Tabletop Simulator.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2849945690

That's all for now. We'll update you again as production winds down and we have our finalized shipping timeline.

As always, if you have any questions, feel free to write to us at [email protected].

We're Back! Cover Reveals are HERE!
3 months ago – Tue, Aug 13, 2024 at 06:37:31 AM

Ahoy, friends!

It's been a while since we've updated the campaign, and we appreciate your patience. We've been hard at work preparing the files for print, as well as getting the Studio ready for Gen Con!

All the print files for the Ahoy expansion content has been submitted to the factory as of August 1st, so we're right on schedule. We've even received the PPC! We're excited to reveal the covers of the expansion content:

That's right! Ahoy: New Horizons is now ...

Ahoy: Rivals and Renegades, featuring the Blackfish Brigade and the Shellfire Rebellion.

Ahoy: Fang and Fortune, featuring the Leviathan and the Coral Cap Pirates

As we continued to develop and test the new content, some of our discussion focused on what the final Ahoy expansion product would look like for retail shelves. We settled on a split of the 2-player factions in one box, and the 3- and 4-player factions in the other. That way, players that prefer or usually play the 2-player game would be able to expand their options with one box. Folks that want more diversity in their 3- and 4-player games could do so with the other box.

It's all the content we promised in the campaign, but in two gorgeous boxes illustrated by Kyle Ferrin. More boxes = more art! (Cover reveals for the Cursed Treasure small expansion and upgraded components pack, coming soon!)

If you'd like to hear more about what's been happening with Ahoy, and our recent Studio Shenanigans, tune in to today's Studio Chat! Nick and Cole will be live on our Twitch channel at 2PM CDT, ready to answer your Ahoy questions.

Can't tune in? You can catch the recording through the weekend on Twitch, or stay tuned to our YouTube channel where the chat will be available by the end of the week.

Team Mode & Screen Printing & Treasure, oh my!
6 months ago – Thu, May 16, 2024 at 09:28:03 AM

Hi everyone,

We’ve got some pretty big announcements for you today.

Team Mode!
During development I had the realization that, given how the Blackfish Brigade and Shellfire Rebellion had to be designed, they theoretically should work in a team mode. After only one game, it was clear that this was worth exploring, and the feature soon became one of my favorite parts of the new expansion.

The rules are simple. Players split into two teams (Blackfish and Bluefin vs Shellfire and Mollusks) and start with a slightly larger map. Teammates can trade crew and gold while in the same region, and have the ability to use their ally’s Patrols and Comrades. As you might imagine, this opens up a wide range of strategies and daring new gambits.

Screen Printed Wood
Team mode did initially present a problem for the game’s production. Normally, the two blue and yellow factions would never be in the same game, so it was okay that their pieces had similar colors and designs. But, with team mode, we suddenly needed a better way to distinguish the pieces. The easy solution was to add screen-printing to them. Thankfully, the performance of this campaign gave us extra room in the budget.

Of course, if we were going to screen print the new factions, then it only made sense to do the old factions as well. So, along with the metal coins, we decided to add an additional freebie to everyone’s pledge. Now everyone will be getting a full set of pieces which will replace all wooden ships in the base game with new, screen-printed pieces.

We have been blown away by how much Kyle’s new designs add to the look of the overall game. Between the new coins and screen-printed ships, we think this is one of the best looking games we’ve ever worked on, and we cannot wait for you all to see the pieces in action.

So, in short, we’ve been able to follow that time-honored Leder Games tradition of finding new things to add to your pledges without adjusting any prices. I want to emphasize that you do not need to do anything. The deluxe components pack will now contain updated screen-printed pieces that replace all of the wood in the base game (except the comrades, since they are stickered). In addition, all of the wood for the new factions will also be screen-printed. And, best of all perhaps, the screen-printing will be double-sided. This is a first for us, but Ahoy deserved the deluxe treatment!

Treasure and Turmoil
Treasure and Turmoil has completed development! This micro-expansion contains a trove of 13 cards that will surprise even the saltiest sea dog. They can be easily folded into any games of Ahoy, even those featuring only the base factions. At the start of the game, players are given two cards and asked to pick one. Choose wisely though, as they can radically transform your plans!
  Twitch Stream
If any of that sounds interesting you can check it out today on Twitch at 2pm CDT where we will be playing Team Mode with the Treasures and showing off the screen printed wood!

Ahoy, Sailors!

I come with riches from afar; an updated Tabletop Simulator Mod and Print and Play are now available!

During Josh’s visit we were able to make great progress on the remaining development concerns and start adding that nice layer of polish. You’ll probably want to re-read the rules before you dive in. (You’ll also notice the rulebook has entered into preliminary layout!)
But here’s a summary of the changes…

Shellfire Rebellion
  • Build requires a 4 or 6
  • Plan Deck Adjustments
Coral Cap Pirates
  • Captains of Frigates now keep abilities
  • Changed how various Frigates score
  • Adjusted Battle Victories
Leviathan
  • Feast requires a 4 or 6
  • Size is no longer a track
  • Fangs only applies to battles with a head
  • Ambitions have been removed
  • Adjusted how they score at round end
  • Changes to multiple Evolutions
  • Game end scoring for Evolutions is back

If you have an opportunity to play we’d love to hear about your experience, sharing feedback here or in our Discord is always appreciated!

A Call for Testers as Ahoy Enters Final Development
9 months ago – Fri, Mar 01, 2024 at 12:29:47 PM

Hello everyone,

We've all been hard at work testing the new factions. At this point everything is very close to complete in terms of development, but there's still final balancing on the horizon.

Today, we want to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to help test the final game. We coordinate most games over the Woodland Warriors, our official fan discord. If you’re interested in seeing the new factions in action or just want to find a way to play more Ahoy, you’ll find plenty of players over there.

If you haven’t used this Discord server before, you’ll be greeted by a welcome message after you sign up. Make sure to react to this messaging using the Ahoy button. Once you press it, you’ll be given access to all of the Ahoy channels, including “#ahoy-lfg” helps players who are currently looking for a game find each other.

Regardless of whether or not you might want to help the final balancing push, you're welcome to take a look at the most recent changes by subscribing to current kit on Tabletop Simulator mod here.

And, you can check out the rules document here.

For those that are wondering, we are planning on release a physical print-and-play kit as well. We should have something ready in the next couple of weeks which we will post over on the Woodland Warriors and include in next month's campaign update.
